With renowned chef Ricardo Zarate at the helm, Mamacita is an exciting new addition to the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex. This place is usually super crazy, but trust me when I say Mamacita is worth braving the crowds…
While there aren’t a ton of gluten-free options on the menu due to the use of soy sauce in many of the marinades and sauces, what is gluten-free is fantastic. My absolute favorite was the ceviche, made with yellowtail, seaweed salad, roasted sweet potato, and rocoto leche de tigre. I’ve had a good amount of ceviche in my day, but I can say this rendition at Mamacita was one of the best. The fish was delightfully tangy and fresh.
Next I enjoyed the house salad, chock full of kale, almonds, crispy quinoa, apple, roasted beets, and tossed in a vinaigrette dressing. It was so apparent Mamacita’s produce is extremely fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the almonds in the salad, as they provided a nice crunch.
Last, I tried the organic Portobello bowl, with meaty portobello mushroom, gochujang marinade, housemade pickles, kale, farmers market vegetables, and a yogurt dressing. I can’t eat dairy, so they omitted the yogurt dressing for me. I was amazed at how willing Mamacita was to make alterations even though they’re just a fast-casual restaurant.
Even though Mamacita is has a casual setting, their food is far from it. I was truly amazed by the flavors that were rendered from simple, fresh ingredients. I’ll definitely be back if I’m ever in Hollywood, if not just for that ceviche!
