After one visit here, we know that you’ll agree… chips are NOT just a side! Soho’s new hotspot chip and dip restaurant has masterfully perfected handmade chips (or crisps in the UK) paired with exciting, fresh dips for a fun alternative to your typical lunch, snack or dinner…
Their concept is simple- lightly salted chips with savory dips or cinnamon sugar dusted chips with sweet “pudding” dips- but their chips are not. These are not ordinary potatoes! HIPCHIPS’ chips originate from a melange of 7 heritage potato varieties, beautifully colored and locally grown in British soil. And we all know how much we gluten-free love potatoes! Small, medium and large boxes of chips are available with 2, 3 and 6 dips included respectively. We recommend at least 1 dip for the main course and 1 sweet pudding for dessert!
Salsa and guacamole are the bland, primitive relatives of the innovative dip concoctions you can find at the HIPCHIPS counter. Choose from veggie ceviche, beetroot & lemongrass marmalade, smoky cheese fondue, Moroccan yoghurt, baba ghanoush… an international mix of flavours, and all gluten-free if you avoid the katsu curry! If you have a sweet tooth, don’t worry, there’s a dessert pudding dip for everyone. From PB&J to chocolate praline mouse, campfire s’mores to chocolate salted caramel, lemon tart & raspberries to cheesecake and of course crème brûlée, you can’t go wrong – and all are gluten-free!! Luckily, we happened to visit just before Valentine’s Day and scored a sample of their special holiday flavors: eton mess (crumbled meringue, whipped cream and raspberries- our fave!) and a light, passion fruit, pistachio-topped custard.
London, we have finally discovered the perfect sweet alternative to the difficult-to-find gluten-free cupcake, donut or cookie. At the end of the day, it doesn’t get much hipper than a fresh and trendy chip and dip bar, spreading gluten-free love.
