So long Monarch Room, and welcome Kola House! The same team that brought NYC the once popular Monarch Room has now revamped the space and brings us Kola House, an American eatery with a delicious cocktail menu and American menu that incorporates global influences. Before I get to the food, I want to elaborate on how much I like what the Kola team stands for. They support emerging talent and encourage collaborations, and believe in “sourcing locally and thinking globally.”
Much of the menu is naturally gluten-free which is always great to see, and items that aren’t GF can be made gluten-free by asking for NOBREAD. My friend and I started with the Salmon Tartar on sticky rice and Shrimp A La Plancha with NOBREAD. I loved that the salmon was gluten-free, as often vinegars containing gluten are used to keep the sticky rice together. For our mains we ordered the char on a sweet and spicy carrot salsa and edamame puree, and the steak with papas bravas and roasted garlic. The char was simple and elegant! It was also served with roasted carrots which I loved. No meal is complete without ordering a few sides, especially when Brussels Sprouts are on the menu! We ordered the Brussels and Broccolini with no crispy shallots, and it’s safe to say we finished our meal, and the food coma was REAL.
Kola House is still very new, and I look forward to seeing it develop and make a name for itself in the Meatpacking District. Start your night with dinner and drinks at Kola House, and then head down to Gilded Lily where you’re guaranteed a good time!
