So here's what we think...

“Do you have any gluten free options?”
“Gluten free?? This is a French Restaurant! Of course not!”
Thankfully, my waiter was joking, and to my surpise, there were plenty of gluten free options at newly opened La Gamelle on the Lower East Side! …

Prior to going to La Gamelle, I read from the folks at Eater and other prominent food blogs that the restaurant served some of the best French cuisine in New York City. Well, I can now say that the food is truly delicious! To start, you have to order the octopus. The octopus looked like it came straight out of the ocean, which alarmed me at first, but it was one of the best octopus dishes I had ever had. My guest and I then ordered the Tuna Nicoise Salad, Whole Branzino, Ratatouille, and Scallops served with lentils (the special of the night). All of these dishes were gluten free, and they were excellent! We ordered a side of fries too! Small and crisp, the fries were awesome, but they were subject to cross contamination. For the steak lovers, the steak tartare appetizer was gluten free when you asked for it with nobread, and the steak tartare entree was totally GF! Other NOBREAD approved items I wish I had ordered included the escargot and roasted duck breast.

La Gamelle is most popular for brunch, and given its exquisite food… and proximity to my apartment… I will definitely go give it a try soon! Eggs with sauteed potatoes and omelette du jour… I have my eye on you!
