Ceviche + Empanadas = Macondo. Located alongside sister restaurant, Barraca, Macondo West features free-style Latin cuisine from all parts of the Hispanic World. Whether you order from the tapas section, ceviche bar, or grill, you are guaranteed a nobread friendly meal full of flavor and Latin charm…
I had the opportunity to go to the restaurant for dinner last week, and with so many gluten free options I didn’t know where to begin. My table and I started with the crab guacamole and tortilla chips. I’m a purist and don’t love when extra ingredients are added to my guac, but I LOVED the crab. For our meal, my friends and I ordered from the ceviche bar and did a tasting of the hamachi crudo, shrimp with coconut juice, and mixto ceviche which is octopus, shrimp, passion fruit, bell peppers, avocado, and citrus. I loved all three! The fruit/citrus juices were incredibly flavorful, yet didn’t overpower the fish, and all were very tasty. Lastly, we ordered the empanada bucket full of beef and chicken empanadas. The empanadas are made from corn and they are not subject to cross contamination in the fryer as the restaurant has two fryers. The empanadas are Mecando’s signature dish and they are a MUST ORDER.
To all the mimosa lovers out there, Macondo serves a bottomless mimosa brunch. For just $15, you can enjoy unlimited mimosas with your meal. Ceviche + Empanadas + Mimosas= why you need to go to Macondo now. I definitely recommend this restaurant for your next “fun brunch” or group dinner, and to all the party-goers, Macondo’s downstairs bar is awesome and open for late-night. ONE MORE THING: Macondo West has a twin sister- Macondo East! It is located in the East Village on Houston/1st Ave, so for those who don’t want to make the trip West, you’re in luck!
