FINALLY! Great poke has arrived in New York City. I’m tough to please when it comes to poke here in NYC, but that’s because I’m spoiled by all the fresh and delicious poke spots out in Los Angeles. The PokeSpot, located on 12th and 4th, has been in the works for a while, and I was so happy to be in NYC for its opening! And great news: it is very NOBREAD approved! I went back the following day for more! …
The reason why I love poke so much is because it’s very gluten-friendly! Especially when you have the flexibility to make your own bowl. To start, you have the option to choose from four bases, and all are gluten-free except the burrito. Next up, add your proteins, toppings, mix-ins, and lastly a sauce! I went with the salmon bowl on white rice, topped with avocado, mango, cucumber, and seaweed, and completed with the PokeSpot Sauce. Of the sauces, just three are gluten-free: PokeSpot Sauce, Sriracha Aioli, and Sesame Ginger. My bowl was amazing! My friend made her own bowl with chicken and she was super pleased as well. Whatever you do, you HAVE to order the crab guacamole (chips optional) and the avocado boat. The avocado boat is a half avocado filled with one protein, two toppings, and a sauce! It is so unique and the perfect dish to split with a friend! The PokeSpot also serves a menu of bowls with pre-set fix-ins. If you want one of those, go for it! Just make sure the sauce is GF, and if it isn’t, sub it for a gluten-free alternative!
I absolutely loved The PokeSpot and I’m so happy to have found my new go-to “poke spot.” The PokeSpot has so many different combinations to experiment with–I’m sure to have my work cut out for me. But hey, I won’t complain!
