When I think of Midtown East restaurants, I think overly fancy, overly priced, and overly dressed. Let’s be real; the area needs more fun spots! Well thanks to The Smith and Crave Fishbar, Midtown East has started to loosen up. Introducing The Upsider NYC, Midtown East’s newest hotspot. One look at the amazing bar and I was sold… but in case a cool/trendy bar doesn’t seal the deal for you, I went for dinner this week and can say with confidence that your meal and experience will have you singing The Upsider’s praises in no time…
The Upsider is incredibly nobread friendly and essentially everything on the menu can be made gluten free. Ingredients for each dish are listed on the menu and you will see that gluten is only added to a dish in the form of a crouton or crostini. To begin, I HIGHLY recommend the steak tartare with quail egg; this was one of the best steak tartare’s I have ever had! My friend and I also ordered the gem lettuce salad with prosciutto and beans and the roasted carrots noyogurt, and both were amazing. Although we were full, we indulged in the hanger steak served on top of a turnip puree and parsnips and a side of the french fries, and I am SO glad we did. The hanger steak is unreal and the french fries with a side of black garlic are out of this world. Other nobread approved dishes I will be back to try include the fluke crudo, smoked lamb ribs, and grilled asparagus.
The Upsider NYC launched brunch/lunch this past week, and I can only imagine how delicious it is, too. The Upsider absolutely deserves more attention, and if you haven’t been yet, it’s time you make your way to Midtown East. Whether you go for a post-work cocktail at the bar, a date, or meal with your friends, you won’t be disappointed!
