It’s hard not to feel like royalty when dining at 701 Restaurant. The atmosphere is stylish yet refined, the menu is innovative, and the staff is extremely attentive and concerned about any need you could possibly have. This restaurant is the dream of any human, not to mention NOBREAD-er…
Let me preface this review by saying I, who cannot eat gluten or dairy, dined at this establishment with my mother, who can’t eat nuts or shellfish. In any other setting, this would be a nightmare, but my calm and collected waiter acted like this was an everyday occurrence. I was anticipating he would need to make several trips back and forth from the kitchen to tell us all the things we couldn’t have, but Chef Lambert is a genius who feels comfortable substituting ingredients or creating a new sauce on a whim. I wish all chefs were confident like this.
It was very difficult for me to decide what to order because I sincerely knew I would enjoy literally anything that was placed in front of me. I shed a few beads of sweat, but finally landed on a wide selection of items – bone marrow, oysters (the only item my mom couldn’t eat), heirloom tomatoes with corn flan, Spanish octopus with patatas bravas and mint salsa verde, monkfish with artichokes and seabeans, and duck breast with green curry quinoa. We ordered quite a feast, and a few glasses of a very beautiful Malbec Rosé, but our waiter coursed out these items and took us on a true culinary journey.
From starting with the rich, decadent bone marrow to ending with the most succulent duck breast I have ever consumed, my experience at 701 Restaurant was one I will never forget. I’m already thinking about next time, where it should be known I have my eyes on fois gras duo with gluten-free apple mochi donuts, the diver scallops with popcorn and chanterelles, and the red curry Maine lobster. I will be coming for you.
