Craving authentic Italian pizza? Save money on airfare and take a trip about an hour outside of LA to Upland (my hometown)! 7th Heaven Café opened just a year ago and serves delicious wood-fired pizza…
Chef Marva Marrow of 7th Heaven Cafe lived and cooked in Italy for 13 years, so I’d say she definitely knows a thing or two about pizza. Marva believes the only real pizza is wood-fired, so she bought a $15,000 Italian, wood-burning pizza oven to bring a piece of Italy to Upland. Before 7th Heaven, there were no wood-fired pizza places in Upland or all of the surrounding cities. And it gets better – they offer gluten free pizza crust on all of their pizzas! Their menu has many creative pizza options including the BLT Pizza, Prosciutto Crudo Pizza, and the Create Your Own Pizza. My personal favorite, the Autumn Pie, is made with roasted caramelized butternut squash, bacon, mozzarella, and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. 7th Heaven doesn’t just have pizza, they also have many delicious salads and sides that are gluten free. They also frequently offer seasonal specials. I went in for lunch last week and they had the special pesto polenta lasagna (gluten free, of course!) – it was so delicious and had such a unique flavor. Their ingredients are kept separate in the kitchen to prevent cross contamination of gluten products. I have yet to try any of their desserts, but they have a bunch of different ice creams, granitas, and semi-freddos that all sound tasty. However, the item that makes my mouth water is their DESSERT PIZZA! Bananas, chocolate decadence, and more… and, yes, you can get it on the gluten free crust! I need to come back to try that ASAP. Alone. Because I’m not sharing.
The pizza at 7th Heaven Café is truly a slice of heaven.
