Churro Borough is the hottest ice cream spot in LA right now, known for their famous churro ice cream sandwiches. While they do not *yet* have a gluten free churro option (FEEL FREE TO MAKE ONE AT ANY TIME PEOPLE!!!), they do have various gluten free ice creams so you can still join your gluten-eating friends on their Churro Borough excursion. The perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day! …
Yes, their churros are delicious. Let’s get that out of the way. But you’re in luck, because Churro Borough is far from a one hit wonder. They have tons of ice creams, sherbets and sorbets in all sorts of crazy flavors that are gluten free! All of their ice cream flavors and toppings are kept separate to prevent cross contamination. Some of their classic flavors include Spanish Latte (made with local coffee) and Matcha Green Tea. My personal favorite of the classic flavors is the Horchata Sherbet, made with house-made rice and almond milk and just the right amount of cinnamon. This is one of the most unique ice cream flavors I have ever tried. The Spicy Hot Chocolate ice cream is also a wacky flavor – it’s so spicy it tasted like I was eating Red Hots dipped in dark chocolate. They also have fun seasonal flavors, most of which are gluten free, including Strawberry Buttermilk, Blackberry Cheesecake Sherbet, and a variety of fresh fruit sorbets. When I went the other day I tried their Lemon Pomegranate Sorbet – made with fresh squeezed lemon and pomegranate juices. This flavor really packs a punch, but it’s super tasty and refreshing. Churro Borough also sells paletas made from fresh fruit – I need to come back to try some of these brightly colored popsicles! Watermelon lemongrass?! Spicy mango?! Yes please.
Who says gluten eaters have all the fun at Churro Borough. You’ll still enjoy a fantastic ice cream and you will be the envy of all your churro-sammy-eating friends when your hands aren’t a sticky, sugary mess afterwards! Win win.
