I am BEYOND impressed by The Church Key in West Hollywood. Not only is the food delicious and the staff incredibly friendly, but the vibe is awesome, the scene is great, and the restaurant is perfect for your next dinner with friends or for date night. High ceilings and spacing between tables isn’t too common in New York City, and these aspects of The Church Key provide for an amazing, intimate dining experience. To top it off, the staff and kitchen are very accommodating to gluten allergies, and the items that are gluten-free are pretty amazing…
To start, I highly recommend the ahi tuna tartare and heirloom apple salad. The menu at The Church Key changes often; for instance, an heirloom bean hummus was on the menu over the summer when I was in town, but it has since been replaced. As simple as the apple salad sounds, this dish was one of my favorites! Dressed with aged red wine vinaigrette and topped with black walnuts, this salad is delicious and the perfect, healthy supplement to your meal. The Brussels sprouts caesar salad is another popular appetizer, but I sat this one out as I am dairy-free too. For the main course, you HAVE to order the tapioca crusted snapper tacos! Tapioca is gluten-free, and it’s so rare to see a tempura style dish use a gluten-free coating! The snapper was incredibly flavorful and the double corn tortilla shells made this a filling and complete entree. Growing up, I loved fish sticks, so if you’re like me and miss your fish-stick eating days– order this! The fish is fried, but it is fried separately and not subject to cross contamination! Lastly, the grilled skirt steak rice bowl with pickled peanuts & carrots, and white soy vinaigrette and daikon Sprouts was incredible. I don’t eat red meat often, but this dish was worth indulging in. OH WAIT, I can’t forget! The sides! The sides on the menu were the absolute show stealer for me! The Brussels sprouts with XO sauce was amazing, and the potato gratin fries were probably the best fries I have consumed in AGES… and we all know how often I eat fries.
For dinner, more items are added to the menu, and you have to taste something off of the Dim Sum cart! I love this concept… the cart serves bite size classics including spicy tuna on a crispy rice cake, hamachi crudo, sushi rolls, and more, and they are the perfect supplement to you’re already amazing meal! Everything about my meal at The Church Key was amazing, and now I understand why it is one of West Hollywood’s most popular restaurants! I will absolutely be back in again soon!
