As a lover of all things “Greek,” I was pleased that MP Taverna in Williamsburg offered a menu that catered to all of my gluten-free needs. The restaurant was sophisticated and had the quintessential Brooklyn vibe without being pretentious…
We started off with a trio of dips: tzatziki, hummus, and eggplant. The dips were refreshing and exactly what I was craving on a hot summer day. There was no gluten-free bread at the restaurant, so instead of pita we were given cucumber slices with salt as the “dipper.” Not only was it all gluten-free, but it was also healthy. Eat good and feel good, right? Before I go any further talking about the food, what is a Girl’s Night Out without some beverages? MP Taverna serves Omission; a craft beer that is completely gluten-free! With my gluten-free beer in hand, I was ready for the rest of my meal. Next we ordered the octopus. It came atop a bean salad and was absolutely heavenly. We also enjoyed roasted sea scallops that were cooked perfectly and had a fruity kick to them from the dried tart cherries. It was by far my favorite item on the menu. Now to the branzino– it was absolutely delicious. The salad that accompanied it was a perfect partner with the juicy tomatoes and creamy feta. Even though we were completely full, we also ordered the lamb chops that were perfectly cooked and flavored, accompanied with a deliciously flavored side of cauliflower and peppers.
Although we couldn’t eat anymore, we knew we had to order a dessert to finish off this perfect meal. We went with the Greek yogurt, which came with a mixture of hemp and pumpkin seeds, honey, and fruit. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal, and I left completely satisfied. It’s safe to say I will definitely be dining at MP Taverna again!
