Growing up, I was addicted to rice krispie treats. So as you can imagine, when I had to go gluten, dairy, and soy free, and I was deprived of many of my favorite desserts, rice krispie treats again became my go-to snack. Of course not all rice krispies are GF, but rice is a gluten free grain and several health and organic food companies developed delicious GF (and DF) versions of the treat. Treat House, located on the Upper West Side, is a unique dessert shop known for their crisp rice cereal creations. The best part about Treat House? Most of the treats are gluten free! The marshmallows are homemade, and they use natural ingredients. For people who are dairy free, too, there are also a few dairy-free options! I knew it was only a matter of time before I made the trek uptown to give these treats a try…
The flavors at Treat House are absolutely amazing! My favorite is the birthday cake treat that has sprinkles mixed in and is topped with blue marshmallow and a white chocolate candle. The coconut treat is another favorite, and the rice is topped with fluffy white marshmallow and toasted shredded coconut. The caramel treat is loaded with chunks of rich caramel and topped with even more caramel, and sprinkled with fine sea salt. On my most recent trip to Treat House, I ordered the hot cocoa treat! It’s made with chocolate crisp rice, mini-marshmallows, and chunks of Guittard chocolate, and it is topped with marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles… so good!
What’s really cool about Treat House is that you can custom order treats with your own images or designs on top making them perfect for parties and favors. The treats are light, crispy, and healthier than most desserts! Plus, I love how almost all of the flavors are NOBREAD-approved. I think Treat House is inspiring a new dessert trend!
