So here's what we think...

Asian cuisine is one of the most difficult cuisines for us in the NOBREAD crowd, and sushi, as delicious as it is, often contains gluten at fancier restaurants due to the use of malted rice, sauces and marinades. At Mira Sushi & Izakaya, however, this is not the case! Not only is Mira Sushi one of the most NOBREAD friendly Asian fusion restaurants in the city, but most of the menu is gluten free! I love Mira Sushi, not only for its amazing sushi, but also for its inventive and tasty appetizers and entrees…

The menu at Mira Sushi is incredible and there are so many great gluten free options; you’ll need multiple visits to the restaurant to try them all! My favorite appetizer is the shrimp teriyaki yakitori skewers; the shrimp skewers are are so flavorful and delicious, and are the perfect compliment to your sushi. Shrimp teriyaki is typically NOBREAD unfriendly, but Mira Sushi makes a gluten free version using a gluten free soy sauce. My other NOBREAD favorite appetizers are the tuna tartare with gluten free sesame ginger soy sauce and the cajun tuna tataki with citrus ponzu sauce. Both of these appetizers are light, refreshing, and flavorful. As for sushi, Mira offers traditional sushi and sashimi such as yellowtail, salmon, and striped bass, in addition to inventive signature rolls. My favorite rolls are the miso over you roll (spicy white tuna with avocado and topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail), the mardi gras roll (spicy tuna and cucumber topped with cajun seared tuna and wasabi aioli) and the classic california roll. Other than the sushi, Mira offers amazing rice bowls topped with shitake mushrooms, sautéed seasonal vegetables, and a sunny-side up egg. All of the rice bowls are gluten free, and my favorites are the bulgogi beef sirloin and the tofu & vegetable rice bowl.

If you haven’t been to Mira Sushi yet, you need to go now! Everything about this hidden gem is great; the menu, the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The restaurant itself is not very fancy, but the food is SO NOBREAD friendly and amazing and it is the perfect restaurant for your next date or night out with a friend. Delicious and unforgettable food without the hassle of getting all dressed up; Mira Sushi is quickly becoming a Flatiron staple and absolute must-try in my book!
