Chef Capon and his team strike again! This time in the form of Bowery Meat Company, located on the border of NoHo and the East Village. Capon and his team have mastered Mexican (El Toro Blanco), perfected burgers (Burger & Barrel), and made dining on a ship in New York City “cool” (Lure Fishbar), so why not change the way NYC perceives steakhouses? Focusing on meat and classic American dishes, BMCo is one of the hottest and most anticipated restaurants of 2014. I had the opportunity to go to the restaurant last week, and after my experience, I’m happy to announce that BMCo is fun, delicious, and not just a restaurant “for the boys”… there are plenty of nobread approved options for diners with all tastes!…
To start, the zucchini carpaccio, cauliflower steak, and steak tartare nobread are absolute must orders and the perfect way to kick off your meal. All are light and incredibly flavorful, and provide a nice, healthy touch to your night. For a main course, you MUST order the hanger steak sans onion crisps; this dish was BY FAR the best hanger steak I have ever had! I’m thankful that four people split this entree with me, because if it wasn’t for that I would have eaten the entire steak by myself. In addition to the hanger steak my table ordered the short rib with shishito peppers and the korean pork ribeye. The short rib IS gluten free; however, the pork is NOT, which is a shame because my friends wouldn’t stop commenting on how delicious it was. Chef Capon noted that the Cote du Boeuf for Two (38 oz) nopotatoes is nobread approved and his top pick, so I will keep that in mind for my next visit. To complete your meal (if you haven’t entered a food coma yet) the sides at BMCo are delicious and I highly recommend ordering the roast carrots, brussels sprouts, and french fries. Attention all french fry addicts: there are TWO fryers in the kitchen, and all non-breaded items are fried separate from breaded foods, so there is no cross contamination!
BMCo also serves a few fish and chicken options for those who don’t wish to indulge in the red meat goodness, but in my opinion… unless, you’re getting the lobster for two to go along with one of your steaks, you may want to pass on this section. A modern steakhouse is the perfect addition to the East Village, and BMCo definitely adds to the area’s dynamic dining scene. Yes, it is the ultimate dude spot, but with plenty of healthy options (and nice looking dudes) it is perfect for a ladies night, too! From the big tables to even bigger steaks, BMCo is destined for big things; good luck team!
