If you’re looking for good BBQ in Boston, this is the place. With a wide variety of high-quality, house-smoked meats, this menu has something for all meat-lovers, and there’s even tofu for the vegetarians. It’s barbecue that’s also soul food…
The Smoke Shop doesn’t believe in “hidden” gluten, which is why all the BBQ sauces and meats have no added gluten (unless explicitly stated). They are also exceptionally allergen-friendly. If you have a lot of special dietary needs, you can email or call a few days in advance and the chef will make you a special menu.
We tried a variety of the meats: the brisket, smoked turkey, hot links with pimento cheese, burnt ends, and both kinds of wings (the hot wings and the normal bar wings), along with the Sunday special of baby back ribs. It came with two sides of your choice and fresh watermelon; we opted for the coleslaw and zucchini salad. The term “finger-licking good” came to mind, as I definitely licked my fingers throughout the course of this dinner (sorry, date!).
It’s soul food at its best: hearty, filling, feel-good food that doesn’t leave you feeling too greasy or heavy. The meat is tender and flavorful — you don’t even need barbecue sauce (although their sauce is amazing).
If you’re in the mood (and over 21), they also have a selection of interesting and well-crafted cocktails, as well as a plethora of cider and beer.
