Woah! Who would’ve thought that the most highly sought after pizza place in San Francisco would also make the most ridiculously tasty gluten-free pizza? Let me just say that all you gluten-free folk should be pleasantly surprised. Not only does Tony’s Pizza accommodate us with a homemade gluten-free crust, but they also offer GF breadsticks and pasta! For those of us more skeptical of pizza places due to CC, Tony’s uses a separate oven to process the gluten-free pizza, seriously lowering a risk…
When it comes to the menu, pizza is definitely the way to go. All of the American and Italian style pizzas can be made gluten-free and you can choose your own toppings. All of the crust is made in house using a special recipe they’ve created for gluten-free individuals. I was able to try the Di Napoli, Jersey’s Original Tomato, and Prosciutto E Pomodorini. My favorite of the three was the Prosciutto that was salty from the meat and arugula but balanced by the sweet tomato sauce. The Jersey’s style was a close runner-up since the tomato sauce and cheese were inverted, making it an amazing way to be able to taste the complexity and depth of the sauce.
Apart from the pizzas, all of the pasta can be made gluten-free by substituting for a gluten-free version. I opted for the seafood linguine that was light for a pasta, with a white wine broth and various seafoods: clams, mussels, and shrimp. The breadsticks are also a great way to taste the gluten-free crust, sans all the toppings. Also, we got a salad to get our veggies in. But the real star of the show was the pizza.
Definitely come to Tony’s if you are in San Francisco and are after a pizza. The Pizzaolo is constantly innovating better ways to make all of their pizzas and the gluten-free ones are no exception.
