After more than 15 years, Blue Plate still has so much to celebrate. The quaint, house meets diner styled restaurant, has been a hit in the Outer Mission before the area became a housing and food destination. The front room after entering the arched front door, is the center of all the cooking. With counter style seating, and some tables, prepare to be mesmerized by chefs chopping and grilling right before your eyes. Make your way to the back room for a picturesque view of what feels like your own secret garden. In the warmer months, the back area is open for guest who wish to dine among nature, but the view is just as lovely from the heated indoors…
Along with the decor comes a menu that packs a lot of love and flavor into each dish. Friendly and super accommodating servers make you feel like you’re dining in your own home away from home. Chefs have a ball in the kitchen switching up the menu seasonally, you can really tell they’ve poured their heart and soul into each dish.
With such a diverse and eclectic menu, there is no shortage of gluten-free options. Most dishes were gluten-free on their own with no modifications necessary. Like the bibb lettuce salad with tahini vinaigrette, strawberry, avocado, pistachio and dukka spice. Or the grilled monterey bay squid with charred eggplant, endive, chicken skin, harissa, nepitella. And for the grand finale, porchetta with gigante beans with jimmy nardello peppers, kadota figs, smoked feta, pork jus. Don’t forget to visit the extensive wine menu for a perfect pairing. There’s no wrong way to order at Blue Plate. Everything is farm fresh and plated with such care and detail.
