Wurstkuche is a German gastropub that is unlike most restaurants in LA. With locations Downtown and in Venice, Wurstkuche’s layout is an experience in itself– you first order your food in a small, deli-like room filled with sausages. Next, you are transported to a large space filled with community-style seating and a bar, making you feel like you are in a German pub. Wurtkuche’s menu is simple; the restaurant serves nothing but beer, sausage, and french fries, adding to the authentic feel of the establishment…
For a restaurant that essentially serves beer and hot dogs, Wurstkuche is surprisingly gluten free friendly. Every sausage variation, except the Vegetarian and Mango Jalapeno sausages, are gluten free as long as you ask for no bun. I have never seen such a huge variation of sausages; from traditional Pork Bratwurst to Buffalo and Pheasant! It might sound crazy, but the Rattlesnake and Rabbit Sausage is a huge hit, and those daring enough to order it are more than impressed. I ordered the completely pork-free, Chicken Apple Sausage and loved the flavors and hint of cinnamon.Wurstkuche also allows 2 toppings on your sausage– my favorites are the tangy sauerkraut and sweet caramelized onions. It is a crime if you visit Wurstkuche and don’t order the double-dipped, Belgian Fries. The fries are thick, but crispy on the outside, and dare I say, the best fries I have ever had. I highly recommend spending the extra 2 bucks for added white truffle oil glaze–heaven!
Wurstkuche is the perfect place to bring a large group to have a unique restaurant experience. The restaurant is far from sophisticated, but is the perfect spot for a casual dinner with a rowdy group of friends!
