My favorite restaurants are those whose menus are naturally very nobread friendly, and Harding’s accomplishes this feat. Located in Flatiron, Harding’s embodies all things American; from its menu and food choices to decor and symbols of patriotism like the American Flag hanging from its wall. To top it off, whether you go to Harding’s for a drink at the bar or for a meal, you won’t be let down by the extent of gluten free options offered…
Best nobread orders: to start I suggest any of the salads (all are gluten free); the strawberry & spinach salad, the kale salad, and the waldorf salad are my favorite. I also recommend the octopus carpaccio. Unlike typical carpaccio, this octopus is served grilled. The appetizers are small so I suggest ordering a few, especially if sharing. For the mains, the slow roasted chicken which a poached egg was definitely the favorite order of the night, followed by the sea scallops served with a sweet potato puree and pancetta. The filet mignon, short rib, pork, salmon, and branzino are also gluten free and are screaming my name for future visits. Instead of going on and writing about everything you CAN have at Harding’s, I will mention that the only mains that are NOT nobread friendly are the burger (unless you go nobread) and the pasta entree.
In regards to Harding’s extensive list of cocktails, you will be happy to see plenty of hard alcohols and naturally gluten free drinks served. Harding’s offers Omission beer, a craft beer made from barley, hops, water and yeast that uses a brewing process which removes gluten. Gluten free beer at restaurants is a rare find and something I hope to see more of– thank you Harding’s NYC for leading the way!
