Rare Bar and Grill, located in Murray Hill and Chelsea, was my go-to burger spot when I lived in Murray Hill. Why? First, all burgers are gluten free when you order them nobread and second, Rare has the most extensive burger menu I’ve ever seen. With about 20 burgers to choose from you’ll find THE burger that satisfies your craving. Whether you keep it real with the classic or follow my lead and go with the Chicken Burger (topped with sundried tomato aioli) you will not leave here disappointed…
In addition to the chicken burger, I highly recommend the organically raised “all natural” turkey burger or classic burger. One burger the nobread crowd must stay away from is the vegetarian meltsation (it contains lightly breaded eggplant). Rare also has an extensive list of burger toppings which are amazing and make your order super filling, especially when you are eating your burger #nobread like myself. Fried egg, sauteed mushrooms, and caramelized onions just to name a few…
Now to my favorite part of any burger review… the french fries. The fries here at Rare are awesome. NOTE: fries are NOT served with your burger; they must be ordered separately. I have an odd habit of ordering fries as an appetizer, and I always complain that french fries should be listed as an option under appetizers, not just as a side order. Rare agrees and they offer a french fry tasting basket as an app! nobread heaven! This basket is a mix of cottage, hand cut, & sweet potato fries which are cut shoestring style. SO good. Careful! If you are sensitive to cross contamination you should sadly skip the fries.
As I often preach, when you come to a burger joint, stick with the burger. This statement holds true here at Rare. I’ve had the salmon salad and other non-burger orders, and haven’t been HUGELY impressed. All in, the burgers are awesome- perfect size, tasty, and can be tailored exactly to your liking.
