When I moved downtown, I was told by several people that I would fall in love with The Jane and Hundred Acres for my favorite meal: brunch. And right all those people were! H.A. is situated right in the heart of SoHo and between its celebrity sightings, well-dressed brunch-goers, and excellent food; Hundred Acres deserves all the hype…
What I like most about Hundred Acres is their selection of egg entrees. Unlike most restaurants that offer your egg served as an omelet, scrambled, or poached, Hundred Acres offers 5 eccentric, creative, and delicious options. These entrees are inherently gluten free and nobread friendly except for the poached eggs with bread pudding. I ordered, and HIGHLY recommend, the baked eggs with roasted red pepper, chickpeas, cauliflower, and sweet onion (nodairy); it was unique and amazing. This dish’s ingredients are subject to change, but I have yet to experience a selection of fillings that I haven’t liked. My friend ordered the chilaquiles consisting of poached eggs with ranchero sauce, crisp tortillas, cotija cheese, caramelized onions, and lime crema, and was thrilled with his order, too. IMPORTANT: the crisp tortillas used at Hundred Acres are corn based and gluten free; however, these corn chips are NOT produced in-house, so Hundred Acres cannot confirm whether or not they are subject to cross contamination where they are produced. The soft scrambled eggs with veggies, pulled chicken poached eggs, and black kale salad are great nobread options, as well. We also ordered a side of the roasted potatoes- plain but good. The french fries and other fried foods are fried in canola oil and everything is done in the same fryer; HOWEVER, if you tell your server that you are gluten free, the chefs will absolutely cook your entree separately.
Management and the wait staff at Hundred Acres understand gluten and they are knowledgeable of their menu and ingredients used in their dishes. With food this heavenly and a space large enough so that you don’t feel like you are dining on top of your neighbors, it’s no wonder why people keep coming back. Officially one of my favorite brunches in New York City…
