Brodo is a trendy new spot in the East Village, opened by Hearth Chef, Marco Canora. The restaurant’s concept is simple: order your choice of bone broth and pick it up from a take-out window. Broth is NYC’s newest health obsession; it is filled with amazing nutrients including calcium and magnesium, aids in digestion, and is thought to help several autoimmune conditions. Lucky for us gluten free-ers, all broths are NOBREAD approved! The menu is short and sweet, and your broth is served in a coffee cup that makes it easy to sip on the go. Brodo comes in delicious chicken, beef, and turkey flavors, and you can also select your own gluten free add-ins…
There are three base broth options at Brodo. The first base is my favorite and it is a thicker broth called the hearth broth; this broth is made with a mix of chicken, beef, and turkey broth. The next two options are organic chicken broth and grass fed beef broth. The add ins are where you can be creative; you can add ginger juice, chili oil, shiitake mushroom tea, turmeric, fermented beet juice, and garlic. On my latest trip to the Brodo window I ordered beef broth with turmeric, which is known to pack extra health power! In addition to the broths, Brodo also offers soups, but these are not gluten free. This, however, is not a problem, as you can practically make your own soup with the add ins!
The line at Brodo can be long, so be prepared to wait outside. I recommend ordering a large container of the broth to take home. This way you have leftover broth for a drink later on, or you can use the leftovers to make your own NOBREAD soup! Apparently a vegetarian broth is on the way, and I am sure we will be seeing more add in options as well for maximum customization. More and more people are replacing their coffee and tea with a steaming cup of Broth from Brodo, and you should, too! I know I feel healthier when I drink one!
