Everyone knows I love tacos. Not only do I love tacos, but I’ve been to just about every fast casual taco restaurant in New York City except for Dos Toros! Thankfully that all changed this week, when after hearing about Dos Toros’ amazing food from SO many of my friends for SO long, I knew I had to go in and try it for myself. Good news- Dos Toros did not disappoint! Everything at Dos Toros is delicious and most importantly, the menu is very NOBREAD friendly. Dos Toros uses fresh and local high quality ingredients in all of their dishes; the corn tortillas are 100% pure corn, there is zero dairy in anything sold except for cheese and sour cream, and nuts are nowhere to be found at the restaurant. As a fast-casual Mexican restaurant with locations all around New York City, Dos Toros is the perfect place to grab a quick, casual bite for lunch…
Dos Toros’ menu is fairly small, but full of NOBREAD friendly options. The burritos and quesadillas are the only items that are NOT gluten free because they are made with flour tortillas, but the platos, salads, and tacos are ALL gluten free and great options for the NOBREAD crowd! For all the burrito lovers out there who are devastated to see that there are no GF burritos, don’t worry! The ‘platos’ are essentially the burritos in a bowl, and the ‘salads’ are essentially the burrito over salad. My favorite dish is the pollo asado plato filled with rice, beans, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. It’s super filling and delicious! If you are looking for something a little more healthy, I recommend ordering the pollo asado as a salad. My favorite taco is the carne asada taco with extra guacamole, and now that I see the carnitas taco is also gluten free, I plan to try it on my next visit. The portions at Dos Toros are much larger than most fast casual Mexican restaurants, especially when it comes to the tacos and you have to try the guacamole; it is soft and creamy and packed with tomatoes.
High quality ingredients, delicious, and fast; Dos Toros is the perfect addition to my list of favorite fast casual restaurants. With corn tortilla shells, minimal dairy, and the ability to make all options vegan/vegetarian, there are countless dishes to try. It’s so nice to see a restaurant make such an effort to cater to allergic/food-sensitive customers. Dos Toros is always a great option for a casual lunch or a takeout dinner and I am sure that I will be returning to Dos Toros very soon!
