It’s a new year! And to kick things off, the NOBREAD team checked out New York City’s hottest new restaurant, COSME. Located in Flatiron, COSME serves traditional Mexican cuisine with unique twists and flavors. Chef Enrique Olvera and his partners have struck gold here at COSME; one meal and I’m obsessed. Delicious, nobread friendly cuisine with a sultry, trendy ambiance, COSME has made its mark on New York City in just weeks, and sets the bar high for all new restaurants popping up in New York City this year…
At first glance of the menu I didn’t realize how NOBREAD friendly COSME was; several of the dishes are infused with unique flavors and I often find that a high number of ingredients is correlated to a high likelihood that gluten is in the dish. COSME proves this theory wrong and essentially the entire menu is gluten free! To start, my friend and I ordered the avocado stuffed with seafood, octopus cocktail, and smoked raw sepia. All 3 were incredible and are absolute must-orders! I can’t even put into words how great the stuffed avocado was; if you like avocado as much as I do, order this. The octopus was awesome as I expected, and I was incredibly surprised by how much I enjoyed the sepia. I typically avoid raw fish, but this dish is served with just the right amount of salsa and avocado, and the texture of the raw fish is totally disguised! For our main course, we ordered the half lobster with black bean and avocado puree and the broiled red snapper. Both were amazing, as well! COSME is also known for their duck carnitas; this dish is meant to be shared. I’m not the biggest duck fan, but for those of you who are, I hear great things! The one dish on the menu that is NOT gluten free is the pozole, but this is just due to a topping that can easily be withheld.
DELICIOUS food, awesome vibe, and accommodating waitstaff; Cosme is well deserving of all of the hype and attention. The food is definitely on the pricier side, so for the girls out there, make this be the next place your boyfriend takes you for date night. And gentlemen, do yourselves a favor and take your girlfriends here; they’ll love you for it!
