NoLiTa is home to several of my favorite restaurants including The Butcher’s Daughter and Egg Shop. The area is up-and-coming and all restaurants that emerge in NoLiTa stay true to the culture and vibe of the area. Opened by The Meatball Shop’s Michael Chernow, Seamore’s is the hottest restaurant this summer. Featuring all things fish and fresh, Seamore’s takes downtown NYC’s seafood game to a new level, and officially has me singing its praises…
A blackboard in the back of the restaurant lists local fish and orange wooden spoons are placed next to the fish served in the restaurant that day. The main dish at Seamore’s is The Reel Deal, and the concept is simple. Pick one of the daily fish, pick a sauce, and enjoy your pesce over daily vegetables and grains. All sauces are gluten free, and the staff if happy to provide recommendations for sauce and fish pairings. The daily sides are subject to change. During my visit the offerings were couscous, bok choy, and corn. Unfortunately, the couscous and bok choy were not gluten free, but the restaurant doubled up on corn and kale so the dish was just as yummy and filling. Not that I’m a food critic, but the fish of the day, Flounder, was served salty. I LOVE salt and add it to everything, so this was right up my alley. If you’re a fish taco person like myself, you’re in luck. The tacos are served on corn tortillas and are gluten free, except for the crispy fish taco. The seared seasonal fish taco is awesome and the spicy squid is very hot! Sandwiches at Seamore’s are a no-go, as are the sweet potato fries, but with so many other gluten-free options you won’t feel as though you are missing out! Lastly, I highly recommend the kale and avocado salad. The salad is filling and filled with walnuts, squash, and quinoa. Top your salad off with a fish of the day for a more satisfying meal!
Seamore’s is off to an amazing start and I’m excited to see the restaurant become a staple, go-to spot for NYC’s downtown folk. With fish selections changing daily, the restaurant is a new experience each visit and I’m excited to come back in again soon!
