When it comes to frozen treats, I’m sure we’ve all tried ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, and soft serve. And now, there seems to be a new icy concoction in town: “smashed” ice cream. I-CE NY is a new ice cream shop located on Macdougal Street that’s serving up the original smashed and rolled ice cream from Thailand! …
The store is cute and small, but boasts big flavors. The menu walks you through the steps: (1) Choose a flavored ice cream base (2) Choose a mixer (3) Choose a topping and (4) Choose a sauce. I finally decided on the green tea flavor with strawberries for a mixing, blueberries as a topping and a drizzle of condensed milk. However, feel free to get as creative as you want! Not only is the ice cream gluten free, but so are several of the mixers, toppings and sauces as well! I was especially amazed by all their fruit selections ranging from bananas and kiwi, to lychee and rambutan!
After seeing the Thai ice cream video that has gone viral on YouTube, it was awesome to finally be able to see the creation before my eyes. You can watch as they pour your flavored ice cream base onto a cold metal top and sprinkle your mixers in. They then smash everything together, spread it to make a huge sheet of ice cream, and then lastly, roll the ice cream into beautiful curls!
Not only was the presentation amazing, but the taste was absolutely delicious too! The ice cream was so smooth, soft and creamy, and the green tea paired perfectly with the tart strawberries and blueberries, as well as with the rich and sweet condensed milk—yum! They’re planning on adding toppings to the menu such as red bean and mochi, as well as a new ice cream flavor of mango sticky rice! I can’t wait to return and try these out.
Beat the heat of the summer by heading to I-CE NY and getting their “tastefully smashed” ice cream now! Where else do you get to create your own dessert, watch it be made and indulge in it afterwards?!
