Yes TriBeCa can be a trek, especially for those who live uptown… or even more so, outside the city, but TriBeCa is home to several awesome, underrated restaurants that are well worth the trip to the neighborhood! Gran Morsi is one of these restaurants. Serving simple Italian cuisine with unique twists and incredible flavor, Gran Morsi is a must-try restaurant that I couldn’t be more excited to have found! …
Gran Morsi goes out of their way to cater to customers with gluten allergies and other dietary restrictions. All gluten-free dishes are marked with ‘**’ and several dishes that don’t have ‘**’ can still be made gluten-free! To start, the zucchini chips coated in rice flour are a popular order. The zucchini is first coated in milk, so if you are dairy-free like myself you will have to sit these out, but my friend said they were addicting! My favorite appetizers were the Spanish octopus with yukon gold potatoes and olives and the Fritto Misti. The Fritto Misti consists of fried calamari, shrimp, and cherry peppers, and like the zucchini, it was coated in rice flour. The dish was outstanding! It was also coated in milk; HOWEVER, if you are dairy-free the kitchen can skip that step! For the salad lovers/vegetarians, the Antipasto Chopped Salad is filling and large enough to be your entree, or if you are sharing with friends, it is a great way to add some greens to your meal. The artichokes are not listed as gluten-free, as they are served with breadcrumbs and pecorino, but the kitchen can make them gluten and dairy-free too! Gran Morsi serves gluten-free pasta, and all pasta dishes can be made gluten free except for the gnocchi and ravioli. My friend and I went with the gluten-free rigatoni with cauliflower, toasted almonds, and sweet onions, and it was delicious! Lastly, if you have enough room for an entree, the free range lemon chicken served over artichokes and carrots was amazing. I hear the salmon is another popular gluten-free entree as well!
Delicious food, a cool vibe, and a wonderful staff, Gran Morsi is definitely worth the trip out to Tribeca! The restaurant also has a large event space downstairs, making it the perfect place to host your next event. I will absolutely be back!
