Italian food is usually out of the question for us NOBREAD-ers. Thankfully in New York City, there are some special exceptions such as the impeccable, Casa Nonna located in Hell’s Kitchen. Casa Nonna transports you to a relaxing and inviting space from the moment you walk through the doors. With a separate gluten-free menu, Casa Nonna pleases the Italian food lover in all of us.
From the gluten-free pastas and salads to the cured meats and lamp chops, Casa Nonna has it all and is more than happy to accommodate your dining preferences. The romantic atmosphere, soft lighting, and comfortable seating matches the rich and filling foods of Casa Nonna. The most popular gluten-free dishes are the Caesar Senza Crostino and the Brussel Sprouts so it was only customary that I tried both. After I bit into each, I understood why they are the two crowd favorites. The salad was, to be put simply, perfect. It was made with the freshest ingredients and topped with juicy grilled chicken. The Brussel Sprouts were sweet and flavorful, immersed in a delicious apple cider vinaigrette. Casa Nonna’s notorious dishes don’t stop there. They offer a variety of cured meats and cheeses from Prosciutto to Pecorino Oro Antico and their gluten-free pasta comes in your choice of penne or spaghetti noodles. Casa Nonna is a perfect spot for a date night or an evening with the parents when they’re in town. Be sure to speak with your server regarding any other dietary restrictions, as they are more than happy to alter the dish to fit your dietary needs.
With exquisite presentation, a kind staff, and spacious seating, you are a guaranteed a pleasant dining experience at Casa Nonna. I cannot wait to come back and try the Red Quinoa side dish and gluten-free pasta dishes such as the Pomodoro E Basilico. The portions are sure to fill you up and the flavors are sure to make your taste buds sing.
