Bareburger has made quite the name for itself on the East coast, with 7 locations in Manhattan alone, so we were really excited when we heard it was coming to Chicago! The American-style restaurant is much more than your typical burger joint- the options are limitless and very dietary-restriction friendly. Ingredients are organic, pesticide-free, void of any high fructose corn syrup, and all around high-quality. Bareburger is incredibly NOBREAD friendly, and everything that is GF is indicated on the menu. Most importantly, many items that are not listed as gluten free can easily be made GF, by switching the regular bun to a GF tapioca rice bun, or by having your burger wrapped in collard greens. All burger patties are gluten free except for the breaded chicken and two of the veggie burgers! My favorite aspect of the Bareburger menu is the option of to create your own customized burger. You can start by choosing any patty, from traditional beef, to elk, to vegetarian, and then you go on to pick your bun, cheese, veggies, and sauces. The GF burger bun was done really well, and did not make me miss a traditional bun in the slightest! I also loved the “Farmstead Burger” which was the furthest thing from a traditional burger, but the perfect choice for the healthy eater. It features a vegan sweet potato and wild rice patty, with cauliflower hummus, tomatoes, and baby kale, wrapped in collard greens. If you are in the mood for something heartier, the lean, grass-fed beef patty is your best bet. You simply cannot have the full Bareburger experience without an order of the fries. We ordered the sweet potato fries with curried ketchup and their “special sauce,” and I was honestly blown away by the best fries I’ve ever consumed. Bareburger even has GF dessert options including a killer flour-less chocolate cake, milkshakes, and vegan carrot cake.
Bareburger is doing so many things right, with a ton of delicious gluten-free options and a pleasant, comfortable, and casual atmosphere. I appreciate how Bareburger produces cuisine with care and uses organic ingredients, and it is amazing to see that all meats are free-range, pasture raised, and hormone-free. You can trust this establishment to serve you a delicious, but healthier burger, without any harmful ingredients!
