So here's what we think...

Jar is a critically acclaimed LA restaurant beloved by foodies, chefs, hotel concierges – and now NOBREAD, thanks to its almost gluten-free menu! There’s something for everyone at Suzanne Tracht’s  “modern American chophouse.” I’ve been enjoying this West Hollywood mainstay for years and only recently discovered it was celiac-friendly after becoming gluten insensitive…

On a recent visit, our waiter, who revealed he was a diagnosed celiac, took us on a tour of the menu. Only two dishes (French fries and onion rings) were NOBREAD verboten. Plus, everything on the menu is mix and match, so no worries about asking for substitutions. You can pick your own sides and sauces for each meat or fish entrée.

I dined on the super-tender roasted king salmon with caper berry relish, the popular purple yams and sprouted pea tendrils (that taste like spinach). My friend feasted on Suzanne’s signature pot roast and a fabulous martini. We couldn’t agree on one dessert — the chocolate or butterscotch pudding topped with homemade whipped cream – so we got both! Other Jar dishes I’ve loved (in better dietary times) include the coq au vin, doused with enough wine to get you buzzed, the Kansas City Steak and luscious creamed spinach.

As LA’s trendy hot spots come and go, Jar is still kicking it night after night. Tracht’s consistently fabulous food has earned it a perennial spot on Jonathan Gold’s prestigious 101 Best Restaurants list. It has also been ranked among the Best 75 Restaurants by Los Angeles magazine, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Saveur Magazine. Besides the food, I also love Jar’s relaxing vibe; it’s special without being pretentious.  Whether I’m dining with diet-challenged friends or trying to impress out-of-town foodies, Jar is my first choice for a NOBREAD night out.
