So here's what we think...

Powerplant Superfood Café is an unexpected surprise along Pico Blvd and definitely worth the visit. The café serves super fresh, organic, gluten-free sandwiches, salads, soups, smoothies, juices, coffees, teas and desserts, and the staff is incredibly passionate about their plant-based food. Upon taking my order, the owner was excited and quick to tell me all of her recommendations and the concept of the establishment, which featured an entirely gluten-free and mostly vegan menu. This enthusiasm was necessary and vital to any restaurant that hoped to make it big, and I wanted to come back in again before I even had my first bite!…

Looking around at the dishes that Powerplant serves, the presence of color really stands out. Each salad seems to highlight a rainbow of fresh, organic vegetables and superfoods that are filling and nourishing. The menu clearly indicates which dishes are vegan or can be made vegan, which is basically everything excluding a couple options. The Tex-Mex inspired BBQ cauliflower salad is one of the crowd-pleasers that keeps patrons coming back time and time again. I love the fresh and bright Superfood Salad, packed with colorful raw vegetables, avocado, nuts, seeds and goldenberry dust. Another favorite menu feature is the gluten-free sandwich section. Powerplant offers six different sandwich options, including a plant-based take on a classic Reuben, and all sandwiches are served on gluten-free quinoa millet bread. My favorite has to be the “tuna” salad sandwich, made with a unique mock-tuna salad made out of chickpeas. The juice and smoothie menu is also impressive. On my next visit I hope to order the Toasted Coconut Bliss smoothie, made with coconut water, coconut meat, Superfood nut butter, dates and banana (wow!). Lastly, you can’t overlook the gluten-free dessert menu; I love the coconut milk ice cream and the Superfruit chocolate brownie.

Powerplant is non-pretentious, quaint, and casual; it is perfect for anyone looking for a healthy and filling, plant-based meal! This spot is especially perfect for those who are vegan, as well as gluten free. With so many more options for me to try, I look forward to going back soon!
