So here's what we think...

With multiple locations throughout LA, Public School provides that rustic, gastropub feel that’s perfect for when you’re craving some down-to-earth grub that’s not too complicated. The restaurant has a pretty sizeable lunch and dinner menu, but I went for weekend brunch, which meant I had that entire menu in addition to all the brunch options at my disposal…

Public School was pretty hoppin’ for brunch because they have a pretty great bottomless deal. This is definitely a good place if you’re trying to brunch with your squad after a night out. While I didn’t experience the mimosas for myself, they looked delicious.

I must admit I was super excited about being able to order off both the lunch and brunch menus, which is most likely the explanation for my weird amalgam of food items. I ended up opting for The Cutting Board, a.k.a. a cheese and charcuterie plate, grilled skirt steak, kale caesar salad with salmon and smothered breakfast burrito bowl.

The Cutting Board is normally served with bread, but they will happily substitute crudité for us gluten-free folk. The selections on this board featured two different types of meats and cheeses, in addition to hearty whole grain mustard and caper berries.

There are several protein options to atop the Kale Caesar, but I ordered the grilled salmon and it did not disappoint. The salmon was extremely flavorful and yielded a nice, crispy sear. The Grilled Skirt Steak was also fantastic. Typically this comes with fries, but they are subject to cross contamination risk. Instead, I ordered a side of the shaved poblano carrot slaw, which was perfectly tangy and crunchy.

Last came the smothered breakfast burrito bowl. This is actually served as a traditional burrito, but if you ask your server, they will gladly put the contents in a bowl and replace the tater tots with roasted potatoes to make it gluten-free. I honestly did not miss the tortilla at all – the potatoes were very flavorful and the chimichurri sauce was a great addition.

Public School has locations in Dowtown, Culver City and Sherman Oaks. As I mentioned previously, their menus is rather large. Other gluten-free highlights include the roasted chicken & quinoa salad and roasted poblano. However, my advice is to not be deterred by any seemingly glutinous items on the menu– my server was extremely accommodating and the kitchen was very willing to modify most dishes to be gluten-free, within reason of course.
