So here's what we think...

Tortilla Republic is a Mexican hotspot with locations in West Hollywood, Laguna Beach, and Hawaii! With Mexican/Taco restaurants on every corner and new spots opening every week, it can be hard for a Mexican restaurant to stand out from the pack. With prime locations, delicious drinks, and NOBREAD-friendly food, Tortilla Republic accomplishes this feat…

Tortilla Republic goes out of their way and notes which items on the menu are gluten free. This is amazing to see and super helpful, as although I pride myself on my ability to glance at a menu and have a good idea of what is gluten free, when I see words like ‘flautas’ and ‘huarache,’ I, too, am lost! Tortilla Republic is a great restaurant to go to with a group of friends, and there is an extensive list of appetizers that are perfect and fun to split. To start, I highly recommend the guacamole, salsa, ceviche, and ensalada sobresa. I mean, you can’t go to a Mexican restaurant and NOT order the guacamole! The pollo, vegetarian, pescado, and tuna tacos are gluten free, and what I like seeing even more than an abundance of GF taco options is the option to make your taco “skinny.” Yes, a ‘skinny taco.’ Simply ask for no taco shell and you can have your taco served in a butter lettuce cup; this option is gluten-friendly and it cuts the cals! If you’re not full yet, I recommend ordering the salmon, pork chop, or hanger steak. All of these dishes are gluten free and will keep you full for days!

Tortilla Republic is great for brunch, too, and I hear the huevos rancheros and chilaquiles are must-orders. I have to note that although the restaurant notes GF menu options, they are not a certified gluten free kitchen, and your food IS subject to cross contamination. I wouldn’t worry too much; if you tell your server you are gluten free the staff will take all measures possible to ensure you have a safe and wonderful dining experience!
