It’s official! I finally went to my first Jean-Georges restaurant. The result: all Jean Gorges restaurants have been added to my list of restaurants to try. Everything on the menu at ABC Cocina looks amazing, and I was even more excited for my dinner after learning that all tacos are served on corn tortillas and all rice dishes are nobread approved, EXCEPT for the rice used in the lobster dish…
To start we ordered the guacamole with salsa and tortilla chips, a few margaritas, and sangria. The guacamole might be one of the best I’ve ever had… and we all know- I’ve had A LOT of guacamole. It was even better than guacamole from authentic Mexican restaurants! NOTE: the CORN chips are fried and subject to cross contamination, so if you are sensitive to cross contamination- avoid the chips. The food at ABC is served tapas style and comes out as it is ready. The tapas are small, so be sure to order a bunch! To start we ordered the raw shaved fluke (I’m not a raw fish girl but I was told its great), the cauliflower, shaved raw brussels sprout salad with cheese, and the shrimp with sizzling garlic and chili oil. The cauliflower is delicious but there are only ~5 or so florets, so if you are veggie obsessed like myself, you might want to order two. Next, you can’t go to ABC Cocina and NOT order the tacos. We went with the chipotle chicken, pulled pork, and grilled fish (you can order the fish fried, but we kept our orders nobread friendly). The tacos are served 2 per order, but they’re big and easily sharable. To top our meal off, we ordered the black sea bass, beef tenderloin, grilled tuna, and lobster rice (for the bread eaters at the table). EVERYTHING was delicious and you gotta love a restaurant where a majority of the menu is inherently gluten free.
I can’t finish my post without adding that the wait staff here is 100% nobread knowledgeable and showed a clear understanding of gluten free options on the menu. My waitress happily guided me as we ordered and I was impressed when she knew to tell me about the corn chip cross contamination, and which of my orders might be subject to gluten. ABC Cocina is the perfect spot for a girls night out, date, or evening with friends… I look forward to my next opportunity to go back!
