Agave, located right in the West Village, is the perfect spot to come if you’re in the mood for mexican/southwestern infused grub but don’t want to hit one of NYCs franchised or ‘generic’ Mexican restaurants. Home-y, delicious, and nobread friendly; Agave checks off all the boxes. Let’s start with brunch. If you’re looking for a brunch special accompanied with unlimited drinks, COME HERE. Pay $25 for your entree and enjoy two hours of all you can drink mimosas, margaritas, and wine. Drinks are refilled before you can take your last sip and you are served from the moment you sit down until the moment your 2 hours are up. The brunch entrees range from traditional huevos rancheros and omelettes /eggs benedict to santa fe salads and other southwest inspired meals…
Dinner at Agave is also perfect for the nobread crowd. To drink, I recommend Agave’s version of a Skinny Margarita. The Agave Nektar Margarita (Pavoneo blanco, el tesoro platinum, or partida blanco fresh lime juice~ agave nectar). Part of why I love Agave so much is because it is SO easy to order here. I’d prefer to say the food category of Agave is Southwestern vs Meixcan, as they have several meat and fish dishes and vegetable options. My go-to orders here are fajitas of grilled vegetables (asparagus, baby carrots, onions, green & red peppers) notortilla, chile bronzed salmon salad (salad on top of greens, avocado, onion, and tri-color tomatoes), and the sautéed fresh spinach with garlic and grilled corn (nobutter) as sides. The guacamole portion is relatively small, but delicious, and I can’t remember a time I’ve been here where my girlfriends and haven’t ordered less than 2 rounds of guac! The guac is served in an edible shell – CAREFUL! This shell is NOT gluten free. If you are ultra gluten-sensitive, have your guac served in a bowl. Lastly, and most importantly, tacos at Agave are served on a corn tortilla- nobread success. The market fish tacos are always my favorite.
What I appreciate most about Agave is how accommodating they are to food sensitivities. Each time I come here, the waitstaff is super helpful and equipped with nobread knowledge. Agave suits everyone. Whether you are seated in one of the private carve-out sections with a large group getting rowdy, or hoping for a nice/relaxing meal with your family or friends, Agave won’t disappoint.
