Alimento is a small and adorable restaurant located in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake area. Serving upscale Italian cuisine, the restaurant was hailed as one of 2014’s best new LA restaurants, and I understand why! Chef Zach Pollack brings the techniques and culinary craft he learned from his time spent in Italy to Los Angeles, and serves exquisite, unique dishes in an intimate ambiance…
To start, I highly recommend the Chopped Salad and Mackerel Conserva with white beans and green chillies. The menu is subject to seasonal changes, as Chef Pollack focuses on serving cuisine that is appropriate for the season, but if these appetizers are on the menu when you go they are definite must-orders. I had the opportunity to taste one of Alimento’s signature dishes, the Escolar Crudo with no breadcrumbs, and it was love at first bite. The escolar is perfectly tender and absolutely delicious. There isn’r any gluten free pasta offered at the restaurant, so the pasta section of the menu is off limits, but a good amount of the small plates are GF, and all three platters are NOBREAD approved. The bagna caoda is gluten free if you ask for no bread, and the whole grilled orata and bone-in pork shank are both NOBREAD approved and excellent options.
Alimento is the ultimate fine-dining experience and totally worth the trip to Silver Lake. The ambiance is intimate, making it the perfect restaurant for your next date night or special occasion, and with food this incredible, you’ll be back at the restaurant in no time!
