I am always looking for cute indoor/outdoor places to eat in San Francisco, so as soon as I walked up I knew I was going to love Arguello. There are also tons of GF items which make it all the better. Of course, I wanted to sit outside since it was one of those beautiful San Francisco days, and the outdoor seating couldn’t be any cuter…
I would definitely start out with chips, guacamole and an agua fresca. The guacamole was so fresh and delicious, and the aqua fresca had just a hint of pineapple and watermelon. For me, the best part of the drink was that it wasn’t too sweet.
After appetizers, I had the pozole soup. Now I’m not normally a soup person but this actually ended up being my favorite item. It had a little spicy kick at first then settled down to the most amazing flavors. The chicken was also perfectly cooked. After, I moved on to the jicama salad which was very light and fresh – a good dish to have before heading into the heavier items. I love anything with avocado on it, so this salad did not disappoint. Then came the fish tacos. They were perfectly constructed, from the not-battered, fresh fish right down to the housemade corn tortillas. Since you’re on the hunt for tasty, gluten-free foods, I would also suggest ordering the chile relleno, which was stuffed with beef and garnished with vegetables. Last but not least, I ended the meal with flan de cajeta. It came with fruit which helped cut the sweetness of the flan.
I am so happy I found a new restaurant that has so many GF items. Definitely make sure to check with your server to make sure what you order is totally GF as items are subject to cross contamination in the kitchen. The staff was also amazing and so friendly – I will definitely be back.
