When looking for a hot Italian spot in the West Loop, head to Bar Siena. With an extensive gluten-free menu, you won’t miss the pizza or the pasta, yet you will leave full and satisfied…
Dinner, lunch, happy hour, brunch or just a stop for gelato, Bar Siena is the place to go. The two-level hot spot is always busy with lively crowds looking for a delicious meal and good drinks. I visited for lunch and started off with the white tuna crudo, which melts in your mouth. It’s flown in daily from Japan to ensure the upmost freshness and flavor. The fish lies on a bed of avocado and yuzu puree for that perfect touch of citrus. When I see octopus on a menu, it’s a must have and the octopus here didn’t disappoint! The dish was served with sliced shishito peppers and charred escarole which complimented the seafood perfectly.
For lunch, the Bar Siena Chop is a must. It’s a delightful mix of salami, cheese, castelvetrano olives, avocado and heaps of other veggies. On the lighter side, the shaved butternut squash salad topped with pomegranate and pumpkin seeds is the perfect crunch. One of the best gluten-free options is the butternut squash risotto. It was rich, creamy and overall just delightful. On a cold winter’s day, this is comfort food at its best.
It would be a travesty to leave Bar Siena without a taste of gelato! There are 7 gluten-free flavors and a hazelnut gelato bar. There is even a gelato walk-up window (Bombobar) on the east side of the restaurant for easy access. Don’t miss the stracciatella (chocolate chip) or the caramelized coconut fudge. If there is any doubt, try them all! I can’t wait for my next meal at Bar Siena!
