When I heard a fast casual restaurant featuring all things bacon, egg, and cheese was opening in Chelsea, I was SO excited. So when the shop opened, it’s no surprise that I went to experience the hype for myself on Day 2. BEC, which stands for, you guessed it, Bacon Egg Cheese, is absolutely adorable and its prime location in Chelsea will have people both near and far venturing in for a bite…
Not only is the restaurant super yummy, but it is incredibly NOBREAD friendly. All sandwiches are gluten free when you ask for NOBREAD, and all the majority of the salads and sides are gluten free, too. Just be sure to ask for your Caesar salad with no croutons and your potatoes with no sambal sauce. I ordered the Mammoth sandwich, nobread, and loved it. I was concerned that the lack of bread would leave my ‘sandwich’ looking meek, but this wasn’t the case! A fried egg was served on top of pork sausage, smoked bacon, pepper jack, caramelized onions, pickled jalapenos, and tomato compote, and it was served with a touch of arugula; this dish couldn’t have been more filling! If you’re not the classic BEC type, or if you are a vegetarian, you’re in luck! As amazing as the Mammoth was, the highlight of my meal was the shaved broccoli and cauliflower salad. This salad is HUGE. It’s literally one of those salads where you eat a ton and look down and realize you haven’t made a dent! Shaved broccoli, cauliflower, dried cranberries, dried cherries, toasted almonds, cashews, and pumpkin seeds comprise this salad, and it is truly delicious. For the yolk-porn lovers, and because you’re in an egg shop, I recommend topping your salad with a sunny side up egg! Complete your meal with a side of slaw or roast potatoes (no sauce)– I tried both and they sent me into a food-coma.
All of the sandwiches at BEC sound incredible. Whether you stick with the classic, or are adventurous and dabble in the bacon and sausage filled sandwiches, you’ll be very satisfied with your meal. Yes the sandwiches are pricey relative to BEC’s you can grab at a corner deli, but BEC prides itself on serving quality meat and produce. I was amazed to see how much business the restaurant was doing on just DAY 2, and I think this is a sign of good things to come!
