The macaron: made with egg, almond flour and/or almond powder, icing, and granulated sugar. Simple, delicious, and most importantly, GLUTEN FREE. Whenever I see a bakery selling macarons, it’s hard for me to resist and I typically walk away with a box full of treats. So as you can imagine, the other week when I was strolling through the Lower East Side and stumbled upon Bisous, Ciao, I was thrilled. There is nothing I enjoy more than a WHOLE bakery of macarons! Bisous, Ciao located on the Lower East Side and in the West Village is small, cute, serves only macarons, and is a new bakery that I will have to add to my repertoire…
All macarons are made daily and on premise, and they are 100% gluten free. I’m dairy free, too, and I am happy to report that several flavors (typically the ones made with jams including raspberry and strawberry) are dairy free, too! A single macaron is $2.50 and although that may seem pricey for this small bite, it is very worth it. If you want to take your macaron game to the next level, you can have custom macarons made! Have your initials airbrushed on, choose custom color combinations, or airbrush on your favorite logo all for an added charge.
Classic flavors at Bisous, Ciao include vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, and lemon, and there are always some seasonal additions to the menu. For spring/summer 2014, a blackberry, passion fruit, thai tea, blood orange, and black sesame are included and are veryyy popular. Lastly, don’t forget to try a macaron from the Fleur collection. Lavendar honey, green tea, rose, and poppy comprise this list and these floral perfume macarons are the pride and joy of the Bisous line.
