Located right in the heart of downtown, BLT Prime is the perfect restaurant to visit for a nice meal after visiting the mall or a Smithsonian museum. When I say nice meal, I’m definitely not exaggerating – BLT Prime is fairly pricey, but you get what you pay for, including great food, good service, and an overall open and exciting atmosphere…
I went to BLT Prime for brunch, and appreciated that they had an assortment of both lunch and breakfast items on the menu. I took this as my cue to try a little bit of everything. BLT Prime has a pretty great assortment of brunch beverages. There are plenty of brunch cocktails to choose from should you feel like imbibing, but there are also hot teas and freshly pressed juices if you want a dry meal. I opted for the green juice, which was fresh and exciting – it was obvious it came straight from the juicer and to my table.
For food, I got a hodge podge of items, including the Clock Tower Omelette, Steak & Eggs, Skuna Bay Salmon, and Hamachi Crudo. Kind of a weird assortment, but the body on a Sunday morning after a night out wants what it wants.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of these dishes, so it’s definitely hard for me to pick a favorite. The Clocktower Omelette was prepared perfectly, and had a nice assortment of veggies that beefed the dish up a bit. The Hamachi Crudo was actually an item off the menu for another meal, but my server suggested it due to my dietary restrictions. It was obvious the fish was of extremely high quality, and I greatly enjoyed the citrus and greens that accompanied it.
I am a huge sucker for steak and eggs, so this dish was awesome. The meat was delicious and juicy, and the kitchen honored my request of cooking it medium rare, which a lot of restaurants fail to deliver. The hash that came with the dish and the omelette was very flavorful due to the addition of sautéed onions and peppers.
Lastly, the salmon was fantastic. It was a very healthy-sized piece that could easily be someone’s entrée if they so chose it to be. This dish usually comes with artichokes and chips, but the kitchen was able to modify it to meet my gluten- and dairy-free diet.
While we NOBREADers can’t partake, BLT Prime has an incredible bread service with beautiful (and massive) buttery pastries. This should be all the incentive you’ll need to get your friends to come to brunch with you at BLT. Your friends will get their carb fix, and you will be carefully attended to by the receptive kitchen staff to ensure you have a fantastic, albeit gluten-free experience.
