Boulton & Watt, located on the Lower East Side, was one of the first restaurants to capitalize on this up and coming area of New York City. Opening nearly 2 years ago, B&W got here at just the right time! The Lower East Side is exploding with fun new restaurants and bars and new hotpots are opening by the minute. Boulton & Watt is casual and great for group get togethers, the food is awesome, and don’t even get me started on their cocktail menu!…
At brunch and lunch, I highly recommend the soft scrambled eggs. This dish is served with a side of avocado toast, but if you are gluten free, the staff is happy to serve mashed avocado notoast instead. I initially went to the restaurant thinking I was going to order the popular quinoa salad dressed with citrus vinaigrette and filled with kale, grape tomatoes, and summer vegetables, as I’ve been told this salad is one of B&W’s most popular dishes. However, after browsing the menu and seeing an entrée of eggs and avocado (my two favorite foods) I was quick to change my mind. The steak & eggs, as well as the cast iron egg frittata, are both nobread approved and perfect brunch options, too. I love egg benedicts’ and it’s always frustrating asking for my benedict nobread; thankfully, the poached egg benedict at B&W is served with kale and butternut squash and placed on a crispy shoestring potato… nobread! If you can handle cross contamination this dish is a must have, and I have my eye on it for my next visit. The french fries look amazing, too, and the portions are huge, so again, if you can handle cross contamination you are in luck.
B&W is the perfect place to grab a bite and do some work during the day. The space is large, the staff is incredibly friendly, and there are plenty of other patrons dining solo and doing the same. Oh, and I can’t forget to talk about the Pickle Jars! No these are not jars of pickles; they are pickled fruits and vegetables served in jars. The jars are the perfect appetizer when you dine with a large group of friends or if you want a quick snack while at the bar, and ALL of the jars are gluten free. Boulton & Watt is awesome and a necessary part of downtown NYC; I’m glad I found it!
