Another contender for top sweet potato fries in New York City: Brinkley’s Broome Street. I’ve been to Brinkley’s a ton over the past two years, but mainly as a pregame destination. It wasn’t until my roommate (who is quite familiar with my sweet potato obsession) told me that Brinkley’s had moved into her #1 sweet potato fry spot that I was determined to eat here…
Before I get to the sweet potato fries, let me touch on the menu. As starters, we ordered the hummus with veggies (nopita), three cheese mac and cheese, and pigs in a blanket (nobread unfriendly). The menu is small and very burger oriented, so we ordered a variety of burgers (obviously nobread) as well as two orders of the brussels sprouts & kale salad. If I was going to start my night healthy with the hummus, I at least wanted to go half burger/half salad to keep my healthy streak going. The salad was fine; nothing exciting. Note to self: when you go to a burger joint, stick with the the burger!! Note: the chickpea burger looks amazing but it is NOT gluten free! In recent news, Brinkley’s has added a gluten free bread! So now you can have you burger, withbread!
NOWWW to the sweet potato fries. I wouldn’t say they were my number one, but they were definitely up there. They are typical bar fries but not only are they salted, they are sweetened with some sort of sugar! Sweet potato fries made even sweeter! I couldn’t get over it. I also ordered about 3 or so orders just for myself… oops. These fries are subject to cross contamination so if you are severely gluten sensitive be careful. A few of my colleagues opted for the duck fat fries which ARE gluten free but I chose to skip, and the waffle fries which are delicious.
Will I come here again for the food? If it’s for a party, of course! But due to limited nobread options, I’m thinking Brinkley’s is better as a bar/bar snacks spot.
