I thought that I had discovered every health-conscious restaurant within a 5-mile radius of where I lived, but recently I happened upon Cabbage Patch and was delighted to prove myself wrong. Cabbage Patch has 3 locations: Beverly Hills, Downtown, and Playa Vista, which is the one I visited. This hidden gem was nestled between corporate buildings, and I never would have discovered it if my friend hadn’t given me the recommendation. Cabbage Patch is a bright, unexpected find and its atmosphere gives off a picnic-vibe; wooden outdoor tables and benches provide the only seating and it is designed so that you order at the window…
To add to the picnic atmosphere, Cabbage Patch offers your classic lunch-type meals in brown cardboard lunch boxes. Cabbage Patch does not indicate GF options on the menu, but mostly everything is gluten free or can be made gluten free except for the sandwiches. One menu-highlight is the variety of entrée salads. They all look amazing but the ones that stood out to me were the fuji apple and arugula, and the albacore tuna. I ended up ordering a beet salad with balsamic, goat cheese, avocado and mint that tasted as amazing as it sounded. I also loved the “OP” bowl that had chicken, quinoa, vegetables, peanuts and a sesame-lime dressing. Salmon, tofu, and chicken can be added to any order; however, they were all marinated in a non-gluten free sauce and only the chicken could be prepared GF upon request. Cabbage patch also offered smoothies, as well as acai bowls that could be made gluten free by substituting muesli instead of the granola.
Cabbage Patch is an adorable and casual spot, and the perfect place to grab a healthy lunch. It is relatively NOBREAD friendly, too, but definitely use caution as gluten is a hidden ingredient in a few dishes! If you haven’t heard of the restaurant I definitely recommend seeking out this hidden gem; it is worth a visit!
