Tacombi, located in NoLiTa, is one of the most fun restaurants in the area. Not only is it a popular destination for tourists visiting downtown New York, but it is a staple “go-to” restaurant for locals in search of awesome food and a fun vibe. In the Spring of 2014, the Tacombi team opened their second location, Café El Presidente, in Flatiron. Yes, the taco truck is in midtown, too!…
The best part about Café El Presidente is that the tacos are served on corn tortillas. Furthermore, depending on the season, the majority of the tacos are gluten-free! The crispy fish is a staple on the menu, and NOT gluten-free, but with so many other delicious tacos you won’t feel as though you’ve missed out! I love the tacos al pastor and seared fish taco… they are my go-to orders at all Tacombi locations. Rice & beans, guacamole, corn esquites, and ceviche are also featured on the menu, and perfect nobread approved choices to supplement your meal (just be careful of the chips as they are fried in the same fryer as the crispy fish). These days, it is more and more common to see tacos served on a corn tortilla versus a flour tortilla, but it is NOT common to see a quesadilla use a non-flour tortilla. The quesadilla at Café El President is served on a blue corn tortilla and is filled with cheese, corn, and roasted poblano… and it’s delicious!
Tacos, guacamole, and a fun ambiance to loosen up the sometimes-stuffy Flatiron area, I’m glad to see Café El Presidente is off to such a good start! The restaurant is centrally located in New York City making it the perfect spot to meet friends. With plenty of gluten free options and a whole menu of items I still want to try, I’m sure I will be back in no time!
