At Chomp Eatery and Juice Station, you’re greeted by an entire case of freshly squeezed juices in a bright, friendly atmosphere. Perhaps a more responsible person would make do with a juice and a salad, but I can’t be held accountable for the decisions that Sunday-brunch-me makes. For some reason unbeknownst to me, everyone in the world seemed to be eating a breakfast sandwich in front of me this week. I think we’d all agree that a world without a breakfast sandwich is a cruel world. Today, Chomp came to the rescue as I spotted the gluten free buns available on all sandwiches and burgers. Go-time.
The Breakfast Burger. Eggs, cheese, caramelized onions, basil aioli, and bacon… all NOBREAD style with a gluten-free bun. Seriously? Any one of those ingredients and I would have been down, but putting them all TOGETHER? Heavenly. Naturally, I paired it with a Tropical Sunset smoothie because that counteracts all the unhealthy stuff, right? Right. That smoothie was absolutely delicious and came in the most adorable mason jar. By this point, I had totally forgotten about how strange I thought it was to find this trendy, gluten-free restaurant in a strip mall in Santa Monica.
Overall, I highly recommend you check this place out. Items are not explicitly marked gluten-free, but the staff will help you modify most dishes to be NOBREAD approved. If you’re crazy enough to want to try something other than the Breakfast Burger, there are a few solid options of naturally gluten-free items, like the Vegan Portobello Burger or the Chomp Salad. But you probably wouldn’t run out of options here, as the menu has a lot to offer. Breakfast served all day, burgers and sandwiches on gluten-free bread, salads, and a variety of cold pressed juices and smoothies. Delivery and pick up available as well!
Note: While the staff seemed generally aware of gluten-free items, they didn’t seem as familiar with the idea of cross contamination. If you do decide to eat here and wish to avoid any kind of cross contamination, be very clear with the staff and let them know exactly what you need. They seemed more than willing to help!
