Tom Colicchio is one of the biggest names in the restaurant industry nationwide. He co-founded and once served as Executive Chef of Gramercy Tavern, and in more recent years he is best known for his role on Bravo TV’s Top Chef. For years I have wanted to try any of his several restaurants, but just haven’t had the opportunity! Well that all changed last week when I was lucky enough to attend a dinner hosted by Bravo’s Top Chef and The Infatuation. Although Craftbar is a ‘classic’ spot, the restaurant is modern and chic, with an awesome menu to match…
Craftbar serves American favorites, which means that much of the menu is gluten-free, and what isn’t gluten-free can be made GF by simply asking for no crostini, or by making another minor modification. To start, I recommend the Burrata with kale, market squash, pepitas, and aged balsamic, the Montauk Squid Salad, the Arugula Salad, and the Apple and Pear Salad. The appetizers are light yet flavorful and the perfect way to start your meal. For a main course, we were served an octopus which is gluten-free with no crostini. This entree isn’t always on the menu, but when it is, it’s a must order! Other main courses I recommend are the Smoked Duck Breast (sub brussels sprouts or shishito peppers for the farro) and the Glazed Pork Belly. The menu at Craftbar is definitely meat-focused, making it a great place for your next date night or Boys Night Out!
Cool space, great vibe, and nobread-friendly food to match, I recommend checking out Craftbar the next time you head to Flatiron for a meal! And if you’re craving a Craftbar-like meal, with a touch more elegance, head next door and try Craft, Craftbar’s sophisticated big sis!
