Del Posto is my first experience at a Mario Batali restaurant and safe to say it won’t be my last. Serving a contemporary take on Italian cuisine, Del Posto serves one of the most exquisite menus I have ever experienced in one of the most elegant dining spaces in NYC. To top it off, Del Posto is INCREDIBLY nobread friendly! To start the night, I was greeted by Chef Matt Abdoo who explained to me he and his team’s passion for gluten free dining and how all pastas are replicated in a gluten free form to ensure that no one leaves the restaurant dissatisfied. Chef Matt also explained that in addition to making every item on their menu gluten friendly, they have begun tailoring their menus to several allergies and diets, and they happily custom a vegan menu, too!…
To begin, my friends and I ordered the pumpkin salad completed with varieties of roasted squash, the grilled octopus, and the cool lobster salad on burrata. If we weren’t satisifed after these appetizers, we still had THREE pastas coming our way, and a main entree! As I mentioned, the best part about Del Posto is that ALL pasta on the menu can be replicated in a gluten free form, making the fractional portion of the menu that is NOT gluten free 100% nobread approved. As much as I praise restaurants who have just one form of gluten free pasta on hand, it is amazing to me that the Del Posto team has perfected several delicious varieties! Not only can all current pastas be replicated, but Chef Matt Abdoo and his team are working on a few new shapes that will be made in the gluten free form, too. For our pasta selections, we were torn between the orecchiette with lamb neck ragu notoastedrye, the spaghetti with dungeness crab, and ricotta & egg yolk gnudi with black truffle. When manager, Tyler St. Pierre, saw that one of my friends was going to sit out on the orecchiette because she is nomeat, and I was going to sit out on the gnudi because I am nodairy, he insisted that we order all three, and that he would surprise my friend and I with pasta we could indulge in while the rest of our table enjoyed the course being served. All pastas, as well as the two surpise substitute pasta dishes for my friend and I, were absolutely incredible!
For mains, although we were beyond stuffed at this point, we ordered the lobster, slow cooked salmon with grilled calamari, and the pork trio with sunchokes. Again, and I know I don’t need to say it, everything was delicious. What makes a restaurant stand out from the thousands of others in New York City is the service, and the service at Del Posto is unbeatable. Throughout our meal, we were greeted by several managers and staff including Captains Alessandro Fargozi who ensured we were having an incredible dining experience at every step of the way. Chef Matt came to our table on multiple occasions to hand-serve his wonderful gluten free creations, including the gluten free focacia that EVERYONE loved, even my gluten-eating friends! Our incredible experience at Del Posto finished with a full tour of the restaurant including the (multiple) kitchens, banquet area, private dining rooms, and more! Thank you Chef Matt Abdoo, Manager Tyler St. Pierre, Captain Alessandro Fargozi and everyone else at Del Posto for our one of a kind AND absolutely wonderful dining experience!
Oh and ps, stay tuned for Del Posto’s gluten free AND vegan pasta creations coming soon!
