If you’re in Los Angeles and in the mood for Mexican food, but you’re not in the mood to be ultra-trendy or spend too much, look no further than El Coyote Mexican Cafe in Fairfax. Located right on Beverly Blvd, El Coyote has prime real estate and is just steps away from some of my favorite Los Angeles restaurants including Angelini Osteria, Petty Cash Taqueria, and MILK. El Coyote’s ambiance embraces the Mexican culture, and you definitely feel as though you are dining at an authentic Mexican restaurant…
To start, you have to order the guacamole. The portion is big and the guac is made just how I like it; big chunks of avocado and not too many other added ingredients! The corn chips are fried and subject to cross contamination in the fryer, so if you are super sensitive, ask for GF corn tortillas in place of chips! Tacos at El Coyote are the most popular order, and on my last visit to the restaurant I ordered the Street Tacos with grilled shrimp and extra guacamole. Street Tacos are served 3 per order, and you have the option of chicken, steak, shrimp, and carnitas. All proteins are gluten free and the tacos are the perfect supplement to your guacamole binge! If you’re not a taco person, the cauliflower, rice and beans, and Mexican caesar salad with no croutons are all NOBREAD approved and great options, too! The tostadas are excellent, but again only if you can handle cross contamination.
El Coyote is fun and casual, and totally worth stopping by. Best of all, it’s cheap! My friends and I went the other week, and we were genuinely confused at how much food we ordered, and at how little our bill was. Casual, authentic, and cute, I recommend El Coyote for your next dinner with parents or large group dinner.
